London's Calling
Well, I did it. I officially boarded a plane over a week ago that dropped me right off at Heathrow Airport. The next four months of my life I will be calling the United Kingdom home, and I couldn’t be more excited. It feels only right to share my experience digitally. So for those of you who are interested in my whereabouts I will be keeping you updated on my latest adventures.
With one-week down here are some of the places I have been able to explore so far.
Tourist Attractions
Even though I am attempting to be “one with the people” it is still necessary for the cheesy tourist in me to come out. This week I was able to view some of London’s famous bridges, go to the top of the Shard, and take a boat tour on the River Thames which has a perfect view of the London Eye. Each location is worth the praise they so often receive.
In addition, to the standard touristy spots, I am making an effort to take advantage of all the wonderful and FREE museums London has to offer. Yesterday, I aimlessly walked around the British Natural History Museum for a few hours. I highly suggest this museum for people who are intrigued by interactive exhibits. I would also suggest bringing some hand sanitizer with.
Food
No, I have not had fish and chips while being in London yet. Does that make me uncultured? Probably. Food isn't London's speciality but there are plenty of places to get a quick bite to eat. During the day I have become a frequent costumer of Joe & The Juice and Pret a Manger. Both places are great options if you are in the hurry and want a healthy(ish) meal. I promise to get some more interesting recommendations for future blogs.
Night Life
Before coming to London I was told from multiple people that there was quite a going out scene. So I have been trying to see what everyone raves about. After being here for about a week I can confirm that there is fun to be had in London. Here are some of my favorite locations I have checked out: Belushi's, KOKO, Embargos, Mahiki, XOYO, and 151. All of which have completely different atmospheres.
If you are ever not in the mood for the clubbing scene pubs are always a great move as well, and they are literally on every corner.
Fitness
Working out while abroad is a fairly foreign concept to most. Unfortunately, I was not blessed with the metabolism to survive four months of constantly eating without working out. I was on a mission the second I got here to find a good local gym. Thankfully a local friend I made suggested Pure Gym. They have a large range of classes, equipment, and the amenities are all new.
